The Environmental Coordinator reports to the Construction Site HSE Manager as a full time member of the Joslyn North Mine Project (JNMP) Site HSE Management Team which is responsible at Site of ensuring the safe construction of the Joslyn EW mining and extraction facilities, and safe execution of drilling and other operational activities, within specification and in compliance with project environmental approvals and commitments. This is a site-based position at the Joslyn North Mine on a 7/7 fly-in, fly-out (from Calgary or Edmonton) basis. Shift conditions are likely to change depending on the stage of the project.
o Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental commitments and obligations applicable to activities
o Monitor and assist attainment of targets and goals for JNMP environmental KPIs
o Provide site-wide environmental orientation. As required, conducts environmental related training for the Construction Management groups personnel
o Supervise contractors in charge of site-wide environmental monitoring and of historical resources evaluation activities
o Coordinates, supervises and validates environmental/chemical/waste management and monitoring by construction and drilling contractors on site
o Ensure that implementation contractor's environmental plans and programs are consistent with TEPCA standards and procedures
o Evaluate effectiveness of contractor' scope-specific EMMP
o Performs environmental inspections of contractor's environmental management and field monitoring activities
o Compiles field environmental data from contractors (HSE Leads in Construction Groups are to ensure that the reporting process from Contractor to JNMP meets requirements) and provide site-wide environmental information to JNMP Calgary Environmental Team
o Be ready and able to respond to all spills (refer to Joslyn Site Spill Response Plan); documents and assists with spill response (all tier levels) at the site and consolidate corresponding notifications/reports, as required (HSE Leads in Construction Groups are to ensure that the reporting process from Contractor to JNMP meets requirements)
o Assist regulators, TEPCA and Total E&P to perform required site environmental audits, inspections and/or site visits
o Be informed and understand applicable environmental permits, approval conditions and relevant regulations directives, guidelines and laws and best industry management practices prior to start of new activities and tasks
o Review applicable regulations/laws and monitor compliance with Project permits, approval conditions and regulatory requirements on site. Ensure that applicable permits are in place prior to commencing any activity
o Consolidate reports issued on spills and on wildlife sightings
o Participate in incident investigations as required
o Convening continuous improvement workshops with contractors and CMT personnel with respect to environmental management
o Assisting the Construction groups and HSE Leads in raising non-conformance reports for non-compliant work. Assisting in the contractor development and implementation of corrective measures for identified non-conformances
